ACL Rehabilitation Testing
Comprehensive Testing To Determine How Your ACL Rehab Is Progressing & To Identify Deficiencies!
Service Description
Buan Physio offers a cutting-edge service that includes comprehensive testing following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery. Regular in-clinic testing should occur with your physio throughout rehabilitation, however major testing of various physical qualities should be implemented at 4, 6, 9 and 12-months post-surgery (and later if required). Ultimately, to enhance your chances of returning to sports after ACL surgery and to minimise the risk of future injury or re-injury, it is essential to: 1. Follow a structured, individualised and progressive rehabilitation programme. 2. Actually complete this rehabilitation programme, meeting all discharge criteria. ACL testing sessions are specific to you and your stage of recovery. It will consist of assessing a variety of physical qualities : 1. Heavy Maximal Dynamic Strength (i.e. 5RM testing) 2. Fast Maximal Dynamic Strength (i.e. your explosive strength, using ForceDecks) 3. Maximal Isometric strength (i.e. quadriceps & hamstrings, using Dynamo) 4. Reactive Strength (i.e. your springiness, using VALD ForceDecks) 5. Joint Mobility 6. Balance & Landing Mechanics 7. Core Endurance 8. Movement Quality Video Analysis (i.e. Running and Changing Direction) 9. Aerobic Capacity 10. Subjective Readiness Questionnaires (i.e. your psychological readiness to play sport again) Test results are emailed to you upon completion. I will also discuss your test scores with you, providing you with appropriate exercises to address any deficiencies identified. Force plate testing for example, "can provide insights into an individual’s physical capacities, force generation, fatigue status, rehabilitation and return-to-play progress, and left-to-right asymmetries" (VALD, 2025). A research paper by Kotsifaki et al (2025) concluded that "athletes who met ACL discharge criteria were 6 times more likely to return to pivoting sports compared with those who stopped rehab early". Regular testing during ACL rehabilitation ensures that you are working on any physical deficits identified. Ultimately, you are aiming to pass all discharge criteria, so that you can safely and confidently return to sport. If you aren't sure where you stand physically following ACL surgery, you haven't returned to sport yet, or you're just not confident that you can deal with the physical demands of sport again, then drop me a message for a discussion. I look forward to working with you.
